We recently learned that some Identity Kitchen work will be published in Impressive: Printmaking, Letterpress and Graphic Design, Edited by R. Klanten and H. Hellige, and published by Gestalten Books. You can read more about, or order Impressive here. We’re looking forward to receiving our copy, and getting a little inspired!

Here’s a quick one, but just to show the power of letterpress. Amanda Kraft came to me with her brand in place. She is a PA based wedding and portrait photographer who has been featured in The Knot and Style Me Pretty. She wanted business cards and notecards to drive home her very upscale and classic style. She also wanted cards that spoke volumes of how very special her photography is. The design is very simple, and we printed both pieces on 220# lettra, which made a nice deep impression. The final reminds me of a gorgeous whisper. Carrie at Anemone Letterpress hit this one out of the park once again. Thank you Amanda!

Poor Neglected Blog

In the midst of developing a new blogolicious product for photographers, so I have let my poor blog sit idol. But some beautiful photos from Hillary Maybery have inspired me to post. In fact, in the new few days I’ll be posting on a ton of new projects I’ve been working on in the last few months. Gorgeous letterpress notcards (on 220# lettra…yum), and…are you ready…11 new brand identities. Plus a few marketing and packaging projects to boot. Phew. Check back here as I’m going to be posting them. Was going to wait for the new site reveal…but then again why wait?

Ok, first up. Hillary Maybery is just so positive and energetic. After a super awesome initial consultation with her, she decided on doing a logo refinement and asked me to design some packaging for her.

This was her logo before, and while it reflected her strong love of color, see her gorgeous work here she wanted something a little more sophisticated and a stronger brand image.

We decided to design an umbrella brand for her studio and a separate brand id for her wedding and kids division. Think Gap and Baby Gap.

This is is how that was realized.

And then on to her packaging and how to pull together these separate looks. For her wedding packaging we used chocolate tissue and beautiful matte bags as well as custom ribbon printed with her studio logo (like Hermes..ooh la la). The whole this is secured with a little sticker made up just for her weddings.

Next up was her Kids division brand and packaging. We decided to think outside of the box…literally. Why should your kids portraits be delivered in plain photo boxes or bags? We found these chalkboard boxes (top slide off to reveal 8×10 prints), they were less than $15 each. Then we developed these little tags that can be customized with a tiny shot from the session to get her clients excited about what might be inside these little boxes. Yes, those are little tiny clothespins.

Cute eh? The best thing about working with Hillary was that she pretty much gave me Carte blanche, so we were really able to have some fun with this. Plus, her work is so inspirational.

Summer Lovin'

Gone are the lazy days of summer, now that “school’s out” only brings childcare panic to mind. Have slowed down the pace a little though, as you can see from my lapsed time between entries (sideways smile). So between ice cream cones and laptop log ins (feet resting on our blow-up pool), we are pleased to present the latest creation hot off Anemone Letterpress. You saw his logo and here’s how Doug’s business cards are realized. Definitely one of my favorites. The launch of his site will be soon, and then you can see how Doug Miranda’s whole new brand has come together.

Thank you Carrie for the photos…she prints, she shoots, I do not know what I would do without her!

One of the coolest things about Cindy is that she just seems to get it. She was an absolute dream to work with and she knew just what she wanted. You see that kind of direction in her photography, capturing real moments in a photo and having it tell a very definite story. The second coolest thing was that she understood letterpress so well, she did her own printing. I was totally impressed. She wanted her photography business to focus on children’s photography in a photo journalistic way. …Save the date that is. This is a fun one for the always fabulous Justine Ungaro and her upcoming nuptials. Author of the UnBride, she’s planning a gorgeously glamourous “Vintage Rock Chic” wedding, complete with an 80’s band, pink Cadillac, and a donut machine. What would be more fitting that having black tee shirts made as the save the date with their initials as the CBGB’s logo. One of Justine’s friends had trucker hats made for her bridal shower in DC. Can’t wait to see the shirts…and wait ’til you see what we’ve cooked up for the invitations!

Flight of the letterpress

Ok, already I missed Friday’s posting, so I’m going to make up with two today. Check back for one this evening. This logo, letterpressed two sided business card and gift certificate were design for the lovely and super friendly, awesome photographer Hillary Gardener. She is so upbeat and positive and loves butterflies. Her work is creative, fun, unique and emotional, and she wanted a look that would reflect that. Rough on the Edges

This is a logo recently completed for a darling photographer in Nashville, Kristen Johse Parker. Her photographs are fresh and spirited and full of joy. She is such a sweetheart, but as she’s a cowboy boots, tee shirt and jeans gal, she asked that I keep her logo a “tiny bit rough on the edges…” Check out her work and website here www.johseparker.com Congratulations on your new business Kristen. Is it time to reveal my new business and note cards. Again printed by the phenomenally talented Carrie at amenone letterpress. She cut the business cards one at a time, wow. For anyone who thinks that letterpress is just printing and not an artform, that should prove otherwise.

The note cards are designed to slip inside a #10 envelope or be folded in half as as square card. I love double uses.
